WHAT IS THE PURPOSE/ MISSION STATEMENT OF THE LYNDEN COMMUNITY/ SENIOR CENTER?
To provide a place and environment for one to experience great food, friendship and fun! It particularly encourages seniors to continue in a physical and emotionally healthy lifestyle. The programs are designed to meet individual needs, develop inherent potential, promote personal growth and increase independence.

IS MEMBERSHIP REQUIRED TO PARTICIPATE IN ACTIVITIES, MEALS OR EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS AT LYNDEN COMMUNITY/ SENIOR CENTER?
Although membership is not required, many become members to show appreciation and to place value on having the resources of the Community/ Senior Center available to them and to others. As a member, one is also entitled to park in the Community Center parking lot when visiting. All members receive monthly newsletters listing all the activities at the center. It also includes the monthly menu.

HOW OLD DO I HAVE TO BE TO PARTICIPATE?
There are no age restrictions, anyone is welcome to participate. We even have Homeschoolers in some of our classes.

WHO IS THE NOON MEAL PROGRAM FOR?
Lynden's lunch program is independent of the rest of the county's Senior Centers. It is not funded by any government entity, but is made possible only through private donations from the participants and the community. It is especially targeted to those 60 or over, but anyone is welcome for an asking donation of $5.00 per meal. Home delivered hot meals are available for the homebound for the same suggested donation. Our meals are cooked on site. The community is welcome.

HOW DOES THE CENTER RECEIVE ITS FUNDING?
Membership dues of $20 per year, as well as donations, support the operations. The City of Lynden and Whatcom County Parks also participate in funding. The Community/ Senior Center raises over $200,000 of its own budget. All donations are gratefully accepted. We also have an Endowment Fund to ensure our financial future.

WHAT CLASSES ARE OFFERED AND WHO CAN ATTEND?
Classes are available to anyone in the community. They currently include art, exercise, strength training equipment, clogging, quilt tying, writing, and AARP Drivers' Refresher classes. There are also vocal and instrumental groups, indoor and outdoor games, and recently added Current Events.

WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE OPERATIONS OF THE LYNDEN COMMUNITY/ SENIOR CENTER?
The Lynden Community/ Senior Center is governed by a volunteer board elected by the membership. The Center's Manager-Programmer and Activities Planner is Cathi LeCocq. Alice Fairall is Office Manager. We also have a full time cook, part time employees and many volunteers who are the lifeblood of the Center.
